Bookings Please book for classes using our on line booking system. This helps us manage class numbers and also notify you if we need to change an instructor or cancel a class. We are a boutique studio and hence managing numbers in classes is an important part of your yoga experience.
Shoes Yoga is best practiced with bare feet; we have boxes to place your shoes and bag in.
Phones When entering the yoga studio, please switch your phone to ‘do not disturb’ and place it in the boxes provided.
Arrival Please arrive 15 minutes early for your first class, this will give us time to get to know you a bit better and orientate you to the studio. Once, familiar with the studio we suggest you arrive 10 minutes early to check in with your mood and let go of outside thoughts. We ask that when you arrive you lie quietly or do some gentle warm up poses, please refrain from talking. It’s a time to practice mindfulness and relaxation.
The studio door is locked at the commencement of the class. Please don’t be late. Savasana The final pose for every yoga class is savasana. This pose involves lying on the mat and relaxing deeply. This is an important pose that integrates your practice and has many benefits for your parasympathetic nervous system. Please don’t skip this last pose for your own benefit and to ensure you don’t interrupt the rest of the class. .
Sequencing Please don’t do your own routine, our teachers sequence classes to realise particular aims. The whole class moving together also adds significantly to the experience of the class. If you have injuries or conditions that mean you need to modify your practice, please let the teacher know.
Child’s Pose or Resting Post There may be times during your yoga class when you need to rest, particularly in the heated classes that can be challenging while your body is adapting. You are most welcome at any time during your class to take a child’s pose or savasana to rest.
Adjustments At times if may be beneficial for your teacher to adjust your pose to ensure better alignment and safer practice. This may include gently guiding your body to a new position. If you don’t want to be adjusted please let your teacher know.
Sacred Space Please observe silence just before, during and just after practice, this is an important part of the experience and enhances meditative benefits. Please also refrain from grunts, aggressive breathing and moans, as this can also be distracting. Please do not adjust fans or thermostats, we have very particular settings that we use so that you get the full detox benefits.
Mats and Props We provide at no charge the very best high performance, eco-friendly professional yoga mats for you to practice on. These are the Mercedes of yoga mats that will stay flat, will not bunch and provide superior cushioning for knees. We clean the mats after each class with a certified organic cleaning solution that includes essential oils lavender, ginger grass and citrus.
We suggest you use a non-slip yoga towel over your mat as a hygiene barrier and to prevent slipping during heated classes. We sell yogitoes towels at the studio.
We also supply at no charge yoga props for you to use during the class, please put any props away after class.
Aromatherapy & Cleanliness From time to time your teacher may use aromatherapy during classes either as a mist in the air or as a balm that is massaged on your forehead. We only use pure essential oils, not synthetic fragrances or perfumes. We select the essential oils for the particular benefits they provide i.e. calming, warming, energising. We ask that you refrain from applying synthetic perfumes prior to class as this can irritate other participants particularly in the heated classes. We also ask that you practice cleanliness and personal hygiene, showering before you come to the studio if necessary.
Kindness and Safety Practice yoga with safety and kindness in mind. Never force your body into a pose and always practice at your current level and do not go beyond. Yoga is called ‘practice’ for a reason. If you keep practicing with safety and kindness, your body will get all the benefits it needs and you will become healthier, happier and more relaxed. It’s not a race.
If you have been advised by a health professional to not do yoga or particular poses please don’t and please also let your teacher know. If you have concerns about a particular pose or an injury or issue you may have, please talk to your teacher before class. It is difficult for your teacher to stop and answer questions or work with you individually during class. Please take whatever modifications you feel are necessary during class.
The Yoga Journey Everybody makes mistakes and everyone can improve. Learning is part of the yoga journey, be kind to yourself if you make a mistake or just can’t do a particular pose. You will still get all the benefits (and have fun) from trying and learning to do the pose. It’s not unusual for students (and teachers) to practice and struggle with a particular pose for many years. Enjoy and embrace the struggle, it will help you become more determined and focussed in life!
Logistics We have deliberately positioned Soul Studio as a local studio, with lots of free car parking, this makes it easy to get to and from the studio. We don’t provide showers or change rooms, just a simple toilet. We find that showering and changing at home is generally preferred and avoids the hygiene issues that come with using shared facilities.
Casuals, Passes and Memberships We provide many pricing options to cater for differing preferences and needs. All are welcome. We recommend you attend 3-4 classes per week (or more) as part of your health and fitness regime. The monthly direct debit membership is the preferred option of most yogis’ that have a regular weekly practice.
A Stress-free Beneficial Experience If you have questions or need some help getting all the benefits from your yoga practice. Please contact us, we are happy to make an appointment with you to work on your yoga practice and answer any questions.
Health Fund Rebates Many health funds now provide rebates for yoga. For further information on the health funds that are providing rebates, please visit Yoga Australia. Soul Studio instructors are all registered with Yoga Australia and can provide you with a receipt detailing their registration number for you to use in claiming benefits, please let us know if you need a receipt. Note that many funds only provide a rebate against individual classes, not memberships and hence if you are coming more frequently it can ultimately be more cost effective to still purchase a membership even without the rebate. Please check with your particular funds for full details.
